Orkut launches Orkut poll .Now you can create a poll & question your community members .To create a poll all you need is you have to be the community members.

This is how it is looks

It gives you an option to either keep only text or upload photos. Photos can be added for every option of the poll. I think these photo's a re self explanatory & there is no need to talk more about it.

It has been placed b/w posts & events in the home page.I think that's so because not many people were posting proper Events.

Books on Orkut

This book is a general book on Google with few pages on other Google services blogger,Gmail,orkut.
The book is titled Google Power: Unleash the Full Potential of Google. IT is written by Chris. Sherman.

Though most of the book is about Google 's search but some good info is given about Orkut .The book claims to be an ideal resource for students, librarians, journalists, researchers, businesspeople, lawyers, investigators but i don't know how much true it is as i have not read it .

Orkut's not official part of Google's portfolio

Google third most visited site after Google.com & YouTube Orkut .com is not a part of google of Google family. Althought Gooogle owns the technology ,Orkut is a developed by Google engg. Orkut BUYUKKOKTEN.



Orkut.com bills itself as running "in affiliation" with Google & is still in Beta stage( as per site). "Since it was developed on Google time, Google owns the technology," Rodriguez says, "but the site is not an official part of Google's product portfolio".



Orkut Doesnt even run on google server. It runs on servers in a non-Google facility, and is maintained by Buyukkokten and his collaborators.

Cache links

Google takes a snapshot of each page examined as it crawls the web .Why is this for these caches are used as a back-up in case the original page is unavailable.

When you search for a word for each site displayed you will find
" Cached " "Similar pages" option if you click on cached option you can view the screenshot of the site i.e if you click on the "Cached" link, you will see the web page as it looked when it was indexed.

This cached content is uses by google to judge whether this page is a relevant for your query or not & is also used to determine the no of links from your site.

When the cached page is displayed, it will have a header at the top which serves as a reminder that this is not necessarily the most recent version of the page. Terms that match your query are highlighted on the cached version to make it easier for you to see why your page is relevant.

The "Cached" link will be missing for sites that have not been indexed, as well as for sites whose owners have requested we not cache their content.

Image ADS in orkut

According to a site called Googlified.com Orkut has started showing Image ads. Although i haven't seen any image ads in orkut . I am not sure but they could clash with the beautiful blue background of the site.





Orkut’s been showing text ads for sometimes now, but now they are displaying image ads as well. Though i don't think text ads are too much of a problem but many users feel so. Now with Google adding even more it's going to be a problem.

This site even has put up a image of orkut showing image ads.

Orkut has recently updated the way it looks as far as photo's are concerned.Now if your profile has no photo you will find the this photo instead of the uglier older one .

Even if your community has no pic you will no longer get the boring old one but this new one

Orkut against shivsena

Shiv Sainiks in the city and state seem to be agitated over the insult of Shivsena supremo Bal Thackeray on the ‘Orkut’ Web site. Insulting languages and messages have been posted in the almost five community segments on Orkut, the famous Friendship Web site, which has been embroiled in controversy since last year.
The abusive remarks on Thackeray was found by Web-designer Ashutosh Patankar, who is currently constructing the Web site for the Sena’s Worli office - ‘shivsenaworli.org’, who reported the issue to Sena Worli shakha pramukh Arvind Bhosle.
Bhosle has already complained about the issue to Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil and Police Commissioner Dhananjay Jadhav and has threatened to agitate if the culprits were not arrested.

1. To make your profile name empty visit Empty profile name
2. To have no pic just upload 1px by 1px pic this would trick orkut in thinking that you have uploaded your pic & you would a profile with no photo.
