Viewing attachments

Gmail attachments acn be viewed in several ways.



  • Online
  • Download

To view an attachment in its original format/Downlaoad:


  1. Open the message containing an attachment.

  2. Click Download .

  3. Choose to Open or Save the file.

You can even view the attachment as HTML/Online.

Viewing attachments as HTML is a quick and easy alternative to downloading files.You can currently view the following types of files as HTML:

To view the message online Click View as HTML at the bottom of the message.

  • .pdf
  • .doc
  • .xls
  • .ppt
  • .rtf
  • .sxw
  • .sxc
  • .sxi
  • .sdw
  • .sdc
  • .sdd
  • .wml.

Microsoft Excel file or comma-separated values (CSV) file, you can open it using Google Spreadsheets and Microsoft Word file (DOC) using Google Docs

  • Click Open as a Google Spreadsheet/Google Docs at the bottom of the message based on the format.

To open a Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) file without downloading it to your computer:

  • Click View as slideshow at the bottom of the message


To Play Mp3
When you receive an MP3 file as an attachment to any message, Gmail inserts a Play link next to the attachment icon. You need to have latest version of falsh player.Click on play to hear it.


To view the message online Click View as HTML at the bottom of the message.



You cant receive attachments that contain the following extentions

  • .exe
  • .zip
  • .tar
  • .tgz
  • .taz
  • .z
  • .gz
