Cookies expire in 2 yrs

There has been a lot of concern over google's data storage. Most if it's rivals seem to be spreading all kinds of story related to it.They stores your cookies to remember information about visitors. Their cookie were set to expire after 29 years. That seems to violates the privacy of users.

This is what google anounced.

"On the server side, we recently announced that we will anonymize our search server logs — including IP addresses and cookie ID numbers — after 18 months. "

Google relies on what they call their PREFS cookie to remember information about visitors . Earlier cookies expired after 29 years. Now Google decided to cut the expire from 29 years to just 2.After 2 yrs they will be again renewed.

I personally thing think 2 yrs is still to much.
