Odeo is an online application that allows for recording and sharing podcasts with a simple Macromedia Flash-based interface. It also contains a directory and radio, with podcast channels. Odeo was developed by founders Noah Glass who founded Audioblog and Evan Williams, who previously founders Pyra Labs respectively, and received funding from Charles River Ventures.
Initially this was held by both. Subsequently, Williams bought out Charles River's interest in the company, as well as several other investors, and reformed the organization under a new company, Obvious Corp.
Odeo did'nt see as much success as some of their older products like blogger. They neither made any profit nor loss out of this site. It was all a waste of time.
On February 19, 2007, Evan Williams wrote in his blog that Odeo was for sale. Since late March the site no longer seems to have any new podcasts added.
On May 9, 2007 New York-based Sonic Mountain acquired Odeo. Sonic Mountain, in turn, has been acquired by the Amergence Group.
Currently it has a Alexa ranking of 10k+ (10,000+).
